The Police Act 1997 (Criminal Records and Registration) (Isle of Man) (Amendment) Regulations 2026

Reduced the fees for basic, standard, and enhanced criminal record certificates and update service requests in the Isle of Man starting 5 October 2026.

These Regulations decrease the fees charged for various criminal record certificates and update services in the Isle of Man.

The Secretary of State directs these changes to apply to basic, standard, and enhanced criminal record certificates, as well as the annual subscription for the update service. The measures apply to individuals and organizations in the Isle of Man requesting criminal record information under the Police Act 1997.

Arguments For

  • The Explanatory Note states that these amendments are intended to align fees in the Isle of Man with corresponding fee decreases recently implemented in England and Wales.

  • The document frames the changes as a standard adjustment to the prescribed fees for criminal conviction, criminal record, and enhanced criminal record certificates.

  • The Secretary of State fulfilled the legal requirement to consult with the Department of Home Affairs of the Isle of Man before making these adjustments.

Arguments Against

  • The document does not provide a specific financial justification for the exact amounts chosen for the decreases.

  • A full impact assessment was not produced, with the document stating that no significant impact on the private, voluntary, or community sectors is foreseen, which may be questioned by entities processing high volumes of applications.

  • The geographical scope is limited specifically to the Isle of Man, creating different fee structures compared to other jurisdictions not covered by this specific amendment.
