The Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) (Revocation) Order 2025
The Office for Students issues this Order under the authority granted by the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 to revoke The Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) Order 2025; this revocation is necessary because the original 2025 Order contained a drafting error that incorrectly named the entity, and a new, corrected Order has since been made to grant the appropriate powers.
Arguments For
Eliminates a statutory instrument that contained a known drafting error, ensuring legal accuracy in granting degree-awarding powers.
Rectifies the record by superseding the erroneous Order, preventing any potential confusion regarding which entity holds or was intended to hold the power to award degrees.
The immediate revocation paves the way for the correct authorizing Order (S.I. 2025/1039) to take proper effect as the relevant legal basis.
Arguments Against
The need for revocation and immediate replacement may suggest initial poor due diligence or procedural oversight in drafting the original Order.
While minor, the process requires administrative effort and publication for what is essentially a technical correction, potentially diverting resources.
The existence of two related Orders (the revoked and the replacement) in a short timeframe could momentarily complicate straightforward legal reference checks until the new Order is fully established.
The Office for Students, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 42(1) of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017
, makes the following Order.
The Office for Students (OfS) is issuing this legal instrument based on the authority given to it by Section 42(1) of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017.
- Citation and commencement
This Order may be cited as the Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) (Revocation) Order 2025 and comes into force on 29th December 2025.
This Order is formally titled the Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) (Revocation) Order 2025.
It becomes legally active on December 29, 2025.
- Revocation
The Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) Order 2025
is revoked.
This legislative action officially cancels or annuls the earlier Order, specifically The Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) Order 2025.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order revokes the Power to Award Degrees etc. (LTE Group Limited) Order 2025 (S.I. 2025/826) which contained a drafting error naming the incorrect entity. A new Order naming the correct entity has been made (S.I. 2025/1039).
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as it has no impact on businesses and civil society organisations. The instrument has no impact on the public sector.
The accompanying explanatory note clarifies that the revoked Order (S.I. 2025/826) had a mistake in naming 'LTE Group Limited.' A replacement Order (S.I. 2025/1039) has already been enacted to correct this error.
Furthermore, a formal impact assessment was deemed unnecessary because this technical revocation does not affect businesses, civil society, or the public sector.
